FEATURES OF THE “MUSIGRAPH 100”: SIDE ONE OF THE SLIDE RULE COVERS Key Signatures, Transposition, Intervals, Harmonic Analysis, Chord Building, Overtone Series Graphs, Vibration Frequency Ratios, and Harmonic Resource Tables. SIDE TWO OF THE SLIDE RULE COVERS THE CLASSIC SCALES: Lydian, Ionian, Mixolydian, Dorian, Aeolian, Phrygian, Locrian, Melodic Minor, and Harmonic Minor.It is basically an entire music theory course. It allows the user to easily accomplish all of the following tasks: Find all key signatures. Transpose from any key to any key while maitaining absolute musical accuracy – note for note, and chord root for chord root. (The Musigraph uses the more precise mathematically linear cycle of 5th rather than the chromatic scale – the heart of most harmonic progression and of root movement is the cycle of fifths. This is also the heart of the Musigraph system – this device relates every tone of the chromatic scale to the cycle of 5ths and displays each tone in respect to a given key in 5ths-cycle order.) Find and name all intervals, from the diminished 7th on the flat side to the augmented 9th on the sharp side (intervals are the basis of music – vertically they give us chords and harmonic relationships, and horizontal intervals result in melody and scale relationships). Find all enharmonic equivalents of any tone. Transpose for all instruments of any pitch in relation to C-Concert. Musigraph works equally well for owners of b-flat trumpets, e-flat alto saxophones, harps tuned to c-flat, and so forth – a truly versatile tool for ALL musicians. Find all of the “modes” of the scale in any key. (This is especially useful for jazz musicians as well as classical musicians.) Find the relationship of any melody note to the harmony which accompanies it. This capability makes it possible to analyze the melodic/harmonic relationships throughout a composition, find similar “emotional” tones, and reharmonize old songs to make them sound more modern, among other things. Find all possible harmonization for any given tone of melody – low degree, high degree, scalewise, or chromatic passing tone. Perform a harmonic analysis of any composition (the Musigraph provides roman numeral designations of all roots of the chromatic scale in relation to any key center the user sets up). Musigraph is also a complete and detailed guide for constructing chords. This truly ingenious device answers hundreds of musical questions – almost any question you can think of – with consistent musical accuracy. Easy to use, it offers the most comprehensive coverage of theory and harmony facts and examples to be found in any single reference source. It presents information clearly, logically, and in a context that enhances both the understanding and practical application of everything from scales to harmonic overtones. The Musigraph strips the mystery from musical acoustics, graphically displaying the harmonic overtone series on any root, plus the vibrational frequency ratios of all intervals. It answers all your theory and harmony questions – from basic ones about key, signatures, scales, modes, intervals, etc., to more complicated questions such as where a chord can progress and why, how to reharmonize a tune to get the sound you want, how to mix harmonies from many keys without getting bogged down, how to modulate, how to do every kind of transposition, chord references for every key, 100-plus harmonizations for any top note, and much more! Each Musigraph 100 kit consists of a Musigraph 100 slide rule, a handy protective vinyl carrying case, and an 8-page instruction booklet.
