Do you want a boutique style hand wired guitar amp that you can afford? Well you will like the Mad Daddy amp I have for sale in this listing. I build these using an EVJ chassis, transformers, and cabinet (used cabinet, so it may not be perfect, but nice) and make my own hand wired, point to point circuit, to create my own version of a Champ style amp. Single ended amp, 6V6 power tube, New JJ, or used old stock RCA manufacture. 12AX7 preamp tube, new JJ or used old stock Tung Sol or other quality old stock tube. 12AU7 reverb tube, used old stock. These things sound incredible! You can choose between 4, 8, or 16 ohm speakers with the output jacks. The Combo version comes with the 8″ EVJ Eminence 16 ohm speaker. The head does not have a speaker, you will have to provide your own. These things sound great through a quality 12″ speaker! The amp has either a Baxandall style single knob tone control, or a Gretsch style single knob tone control. Either of these single knob tone controls give a wide range of possible sounds. There is a toggle switch to eliminate the tone control for a Boost feature. With the tone circuit in, the amp will just start to break up at about 3:00 position on the tone control. With the tone circuit out, on boost, it will start to break up at about 9:00 position on the volume control. A lot depends on how hard you are driving the input, single coil, humbucker, pedals, and how hard you dig in on the strings. Your playing and guitar controls are very effective in getting a wide variety of sounds from these amps. There is a jack for a foot switch (foot switch not included) to allow you to toggle between boost or tone control. If you purchase or use an existing foot switch, it must have a shielded cable. I measure every resistor before it is installed, and check each tube to make sure it measures good on my tube tester, but also sounds good in the amp. There is a lot of shielded signal cable in these amps as you can see from the under chassis picture to help keep them quiet. The component values were chosen using a decade box to try different values in my circuit to see which one sounds the best to me. The amp is built with full wave bridge rectifiers for both the B+ voltage and the filament voltage. The DC filament voltage makes this amp dead quiet at wide open volume, with nothing in the input jack. How quiet it is with your guitar plugged is will depend on the quality of your cable, the shielding in your guitar, and the electrical environment where you are using the amp. I have this amp available in several versions, Head, with or without reverb, Combo, with or without reverb, and a choice of tubes and Baxandall or Gresch single knob tone controls. Different pricing on different versions ranging from $450 for the base head to $850 for a Combo Reverb.Send me your EVJ and I will do it for $150 cheaper.
