The Early Byzantine period spans the 3rd-4th centuries to the beginning of the 7th century and is also called the late Roman period. The Middle Byzantine period began from the beginning of the 7th century until 1204 ad, and it was divided into several sub-periods. From the beginning of the 7th century until the beginning of the 9th century, the Empire experienced the “Dark Ages”, during which many problems of all kinds began and transformations took place.
