“THE JOLLY JUMP-UPS SEE THE CIRCUS” POP-UP BOOK – (c) 1944 McLoughlin Bros. Inc. #2924. 10.75″ x 7.75″. 12 pages. Hardbound cover with thick cardboard inner pages & fabric spine. Part of McLoughlin’s “Jolly Jump-Ups” pop-up storybook series. This popular edition is a colorful illustrated view of the “Jingling Bros.” circus. Includes six elaborate pop-up pages – “The Circus Parade”, “Hurry, Hurry, Hurry”, “The Menagerie”, “Wild West Show”, “The Side Show” & “Three Ring Circus”. Notably, two pop-ups include side show “freaks” (midgets, fat/tattooed/bearded ladies, a fire breather, etc.). Extremely bold, bright and attractive imagery throughout. Condition is considered GOOD to FAIR with moderate surface/stain/edge wear. Moderate surface creasing with scattered surface scuffs. Scattered creasing & tab tears / separations on scattered die-cut pop-up figures, most notably on “The Circus Parade” & “Three Ring Circus” spreads. We feel they still present very well. Neatly inked Christmas gift greeting on top border area of “The Circus Parade” pop-up page (hand dated 1949). Overall, despite defects, we feel this is a very displayable example by most standards (see photos). An uncommon find for the discriminating CIRCUS and/or VINTAGE POP-UP BOOK enthusiast.
