This is a wonderful collection of dried rush twists fresh from the barn of an early 1800’s Ohio farm estate we purchased awhile back. The old farmers there saved everything throughout the many years their family owned the homestead and this had many uses. You get the 100+ pieces of rush you see in the pics here in this sale lot. They are wrapped in bundles of 25+ each and you get all four bundles that you see here in this sale. Each one is similar and overall they measure about 3 – 7 inches long and are straight and twisted tight. Please note these are shorter than some of the other pieces we’ve sold lately. This is the OLD EARLY ORIGINAL stuff from back in the day…not the newly dried imported perfect fancy twisty stuff…this is old and dusty and dried and very primitive and is exactly what they used back in the 1700’s – 1800’s if they couldn’t afford beeswax or tallow candles. This was used in a rush light or clip lantern and most of the time it was dipped in grease or some other burnable substance to make it last longer when burning. This makes a wonderful display to go with your early lighting pieces and it’s still totally burnable if you need some for a museum display. It’s fabulous in person and the dried primitive twisted patina is the best ever from many years of age and the elements with no bug damage. It’s American and not an import like some of the stuff you see out there these days. If you’re a dealer and need some for a display or to sell by the piece in your shop or shows you will make some great profit on these bundles. Please see the pics for more information.
