I want to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. Modelcollect is a relative newcomer to the model world but has established a fabulous reputation for innovation and quality. They initially produced some small scale finished models and later branched out into kits and larger scales. This tremendous release is the iconic B-52 that started out in the 1950s as a Cold Warrior but remarkably remains in service today. The specific subject of this kit was the famous Broken Arrow incident of 1966. Broken Arrow is the code name for an accident involving a nuclear weapon. Modelcollect even included eight B-28 nuclear bombs to complete the kit! I see that there are a few eBay listings for this kit (mostly from Europe and Asia), but I have it in stock and as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I can ship this kit very quickly. Here is what I have learned about this state-of-the-art kit: The Modelcollect website has a page for this kit that shows the impressive box art but has no other information about this kit. From other sources, I have found the following information about their kit: The B-52G was proposed to extend the B-52’s service life during delays in the B-58 Hustler program. At first, a radical redesign was envisioned with a completely new wing and Pratt & Whitney J75 engines. This was rejected to avoid slowdowns in production, although a large number of changes were implemented. The most significant of these was a new “wet” wing with integral fuel tanks, increasing gross aircraft weight by 38,000 pounds (17,235 kg). In addition, a pair of 700 US gallon (2,650 L) external fuel tanks were fitted under the wings on wet hardpoints. The traditional ailerons were also eliminated, and instead, spoilers provided roll control. The tail fin was shortened by 8 feet (2.4 m), water injection system capacity was increased to 1,200 US gallons (4,540 L), and the nose radome was enlarged. The tail gunner was relocated to the main cockpit and was provided with an ejection seat. Dubbed the “Battle Station” concept, the offensive crew (pilot and copilot on the upper deck and the two bombing navigation system operators on the lower deck) faced forward, while the defensive crew (tail gunner and ECM operator) on the upper deck faced aft. The B-52G entered service on 13 February 1959 (a day earlier, the last B-36 was retired, making SAC an all-jet bomber force). 193 B-52GS were produced, making this the most produced B-52 variant. Most B-52GS were destroyed in compliance with the 1992 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty; the last B-52G, number 58-0224, was dismantled under New START treaty requirements in December 2013. A few examples remain on display for museums. Scalemates.com shows that this is part of a flurry of BUFF kits released in 2018. They show the box art and give us a few links to books and references that will be useful in your build, but not much specific information about this kit. Nigel’s Modelling Bench did a very lengthy (> 20 minutes) Unboxing Review that is thoroughly narrated. He talks about the kit for over 2 minutes before he opens the box! Several minutes are also spent looking at great references (that do not come with the kit) that he uses to compare to the kit. I also found some reviews of near-identical siblings to this kit. There may be a few differences in the parts or decals, but the comments of the reviewers should apply to any of these kits. Scale Model Kit Review produced a 20-minute Full Kit Review of the #UA72202 kit, which is a B-52G with a set of cruise missiles. In his YouTube video, he goes through each sprue and other parts with high quality video work. Nigel’s Modelling Bench also did a 27-minute Unboxing Review of the same #UA72202 B-52G kit. This kit is in an enormous, sturdy box about 20.5” x 12.5” x 3.5”, with a great image of this legendary bomber. As you can see from the pictures, the package is pristine and still sealed with tape strips (these were never shrink wrapped from the factory), so it is factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains one complete injection molded plastic model kit, with hundreds of grey plastic parts, of small fret of photo etched metal parts for the instrument panels and two sheets of Cartograf decals, along with a huge instruction booklet.
